The Department of Social Sciences at Stillman College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, to begin in August 2022. Applicants should have either a doctoral degree in Criminal Justice, or a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and a terminal degree in a related field. A historically black college located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Stillman has the proud tradition of readying student-leaders to engage their communities, the nation, and the world.
Experience and required qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, a J.D., or an MA in Criminal Justice and a terminal degree in a related field (ABD candidates may be considered provided evidence that all degree requirements will be completed by time of appointment).
- Evidence of successful college/university traditional and online instruction.
- Evidence of successful research development (conference presentations, publications, professional/organizational membership(s), etc.) relevant to the field.
Responsibilities of the successful applicant include the following:
- Serve as program coordinator. Duties include advising and mentoring majors as they matriculate through the curriculum established for Criminal Justice.
- Teach survey and upper-level courses in Criminal Justice, including a capstone course on Research and Writing.
- Incorporate active student learning and appropriate technology use in the classroom.
- Engage in service activities relevant to the applicant’s field of study as well as to the mission of the department, the division, and the college.
- Engage in professional development activities (grant writing, conference presentations, workshops, etc.) contributive to the field and the college.
