POSITION:   Trial Attorney

The Walker County Public Defender’s Office seeks a zealous and dedicated litigator to serve as felony and misdemeanor trial attorneys in the Courts of Walker County.  All attorneys will provide high quality representation to indigent defendants.  Ideal Trial Attorneys combine demonstrated interest in the representation of indigent clients and superior litigation skills.  Trial Attorneys work independently and in teams to provide zealous representation to each client.  Trial Attorneys should expect to spend significant amounts of time in criminal court and with clients.  This is a full-time, salaried position as a State of Alabama employee with Special Bar Licensure.  State benefits, holidays and defined-benefit retirement are included.  Salary range $40,000 – $55,000

    Significant trial experience


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability desired.

    Must be a member in good standing of the Alabama State Bar;

    Strong written skills, i.e. draft of pleadings, etc.;

    Strong research skills; and

    Demonstrated trial experience and trial skills (at least three years felony experience preferred).
