The Public Defender’s Office in Shelby County has an immediate opening for a staff attorney to handle a pending felony caseload. This would include preliminary hearings, plea negotiations, motion practice, probation violations, jury trials, and sentencing.

This position will be as a full-time state employee, with health insurance, leave, and retirement benefits. Salary would be relative to experience.

Preferably applicants should have experience in criminal law, including familiarity with the Alabama Sentencing Standards and Alabama Justice Reinvestment (Probation) Act. Client communication skills are very important, as is an ability to relate to court personnel.
