Job Description: Court Attendant/Law Clerk under the direct supervision of Judge Marshell Jackson Hatcher. Bar passage/admittance not required. The Court Attendant/Law Clerk will assist in all aspects of running the Court, including but not limited to: scheduling and managing the Court’s docket; acting as a liaison between the Court and attorneys, law firms and self-represented litigants; researching case law; drafting orders; attending hearings; and organizing/managing jurors during jury trials. The Court Attendant/Law Clerk will develop legal writing and research skills and a familiarity with the AlaCourtPlus system. The Court Attendant/Law Clerk provides routine information regarding office and court procedures to the public, jurors, witnesses, litigants, and attorneys; screens calls to courtroom; provides information to callers regarding cases within judge’s guidelines; provides clerical assistance to judge in open court, during hearings; and performs other duties as directed. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to communicate with people of various socioeconomic backgrounds and ability to adapt to changing schedules and circumstances.
