About the Firm:

            Founded in 2023 by Todd Higey after the sale of the consumer reporting agency for which he served as general counsel for ten years, Todd decided to establish his own firm, concentrating in three practice areas: (1) estate planning and administration, (2) real property litigation, and (3) consumer reporting agency compliance.  The former two practice areas hearken back to his time in private practice before his stint in-house, and the latter practice area arises from the relationships he built while serving as a general counsel.  Together, all three fields make for a fulfilling law practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prospective Client Intake and Client Relationship Management. Receive and respond to phone calls, emails, and voicemails from prospective clients. Most prospects will be inquiring about estate planning, estate administration, probate, and real property litigation services. Some initial screening will be required. The paralegal will obtain basic information about the prospect’s needs and will schedule a consultation with the Firm’s attorney. Paralegal will also follow up with prospective clients to assist attorney in securing engagement of the Firm’s services. For existing clients, the paralegal will manage the relationship, oversee appointment setting, encouraging clients to complete necessary questionnaires, documents, and the like.
  • Legal Document Drafting & Preparation. Using templates provided by the Firm’s attorney, the paralegal will assist in the preparation of initial drafts of testamentary documents, deeds, pleadings, discovery papers, subpoenas, etc., for review by the Firm’s attorney.
  • Litigation Support. Oversee filing and service of legal process and recording of deeds and similar instruments. Preparation and issuance of paper discovery, subpoenas, and trial preparation materials.
  • Witness & Notary Services. The paralegal will witness and/or notarize the execution of legal papers.
  • Courthouse Record Research & Retrieval. From time to time, the paralegal will need to go to a courthouse to pull land records, probate records, and court files.
  • General Administrative. Provide general administrative support to the Firm’s attorney, including management of case files.

Location of Work:  The Firms’ law office.  The Firm provides a parking pass to a nearby parking deck.

Hours:  Part time.  Twenty-five to thirty hours a week.  Five to six hours a day, Monday to Thursday.  As the Firm continues to grow, full time work will become available.

Title:  The title for this position will be “Paralegal.”

Experience Required:  Previous experience as a legal assistant or paralegal is preferred.  Depending upon the candidate, the Firm may be willing to train a candidate with no experience.
