Domestic Violence Prosecutor

Responsibilities

  • Establishes & maintains case files
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Conducts initial interviews and legal consultations
  • Prosecutes domestic violence homicide and domestic violence assault cases (Bench & Jury Trials)
  • Conducts legal research; drafts letters and other pleadings; Provides victims with updates, including assistance with PFA Petitions
  • Provides legal advice to multidisciplinary teams & law enforcement agencies during investigations
  • Assist with establishing or enhancing policy and procedures regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking
  • Maintain accurate statistics to ensure grant reports are complete.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellence in written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Ability to articulate clear, persuasive and concise thoughts
  • Sensitivity to survivors of homicide and abuse
  • Ability to collect, synthesize, and process information quickly and with accuracy
  • Sympathetic to the mission of the organization

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D)
  • License to practice law in Alabama
  • 2+ years of experience conducting jury trials and preliminary hearings
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable means of transportation
